EuroFile@6 Spaces on Twitter
Scott and I were super pleased to host Ivana Stradner (AEI) and Natia Seskuria (RUSI) on EuroFile@6 to talk about the latest news from the Balkans, and the extent of the growing tensions in Transnistria and Moldova in relation to Russia’s war of genocide in Ukraine. Natia also touched on developments in Georgia and events from 2008.
As per usual, we began with the warm up, so if you want to get to the crux of our convo, please fast forward to about min 15.
Ivana Stradner
Ivana is a Jeane Kirkpatrick Visiting Research Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where her research broadly focuses on the intersection of international law and security. More specifically, she has been concentrating on cyberspace, cyberattacks, and Russian hybrid warfare. She also lectures on international law, international institutions, EU law, international security, and comparative legal history.
Natia Seskuria
Natia is an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute. She also serves at the Office of the National Security Council of Georgia and is a lecturer in Russian Politics. She has a broad experience in policy-making, strategic foresight and provides analysis on defence and security issues.
After our conversation, Ivana sent me this thread to read, confirming much of what we had said during Spaces relating to Moldova.
Olga Lautman- Darkness on the Dneister- CEPA
Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu has warned that the country is facing a “very dangerous new moment” after a series of explosions recently hit Transnistria, where around 1,500 locally raised Russian troops are based. Last week, blasts hit the breakaway region’s interior ministry and radio antennae broadcasting Russian propaganda to Ukraine.
In recent days, the tensions in the region have increased. Check out Olga Lautman’s analysis on the CEPA website on this matter.
Thanks for listening…stay tuned…
