Christina Katrakis and the Foundaton for the United Nations SDG Ukraine

Christina's work in Ukraine, and my relationship with her

Who is Christina Katrakis…

She is currently the Ambassador at Foundation For United Nations SDG Ukraine. Christina was also interviewed on the CBC earlier in the day. You can watch that here.

Russia stepped up its aerial assault on Ukraine again today; Ukrainians remain undaunted, as you'll see in this conversation between Christina Katrakis near Poltava, Ukraine, and the CBC's Hannah Thibedeau. Christina is a mother and Ambassador with the Foundation for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

My relationship with Christina

Full disclosure: A good friend of mine in the States called me in the summer to talk to me about Christina, and the work her organisation was doing in Ukraine, and then put me in touch with her. We’ve been in contact ever since.

Christina is like the women I work with from Ukraine: dedicated, fierce, courageous and bright- bright inside. They’re focused, and don’t have time for frivolities. You may think I’m exaggerating- I’m not.

Christina and her family made the decision on February 24 to stay in Ukraine until the end of the war. In the beginning, they were on the border areas, helping IDPs relocate, and providing the assitance they needed. The situation was truly dire and I have no idea how Christina and her team managed. They are currently in Poltova.

I try not to take too much time away from Christina’s work, so I message her every so often to check in, especially when the Russian missiles strike. The first thing that comes to mind is our Ukrainian friends (in my case) and family- are they safe? Do they have what they need?

If you’d like to help out, read about their work first, and you’ll find a link here or at the bottom of this post.

United Nations SDG Ukraine Mission

There’s a dire need for support and funding, since we are non-profit and only your donations support the vital aspects of our activity on the ground at times of war, such as the purchase of gasoline and diesel for our cars and trucks, so that we may continue to deliver urgent aid to hot spots and cut off locations, and relocate civilians to safety; and constant purchase of food, water, medicine and aid supply for those in need.

How you can help
