Are we doing enough in the West to aid Ukraine and counter Russian aggression?
That was what Scott and I set out to answer in our convo with Irene Kenyon and Sergej Sumlenny. What is being done and can be done on through sanctions, and financial and economic measures to reduce Russia’s ability to continue the war, and the status of political unity, especially in Germany, France and Italy. We also discuss the moral underpinnings of our commitment.
Irene Keynon
Irene Kenyon is the Director of Risk Intelligence for FiveBy Solutions, focusing on providing due diligence, regulatory, and reputational risk analysis for clients. Before that she spent more than a decade in the intelligence community and 13 years in public affairs at US Treasury and the Defence Intelligence Agency. Her analytic experience runs the gamut from AML/CFT, illicit finance, sanctions evasion, and counterterrorism, to strategic and tactical threats to US critical infrastructure, financial system, and homeland.

Kremlin-controlled media companies, several executives of Sberbank and board members of Gazprombank, and Moscow Industrial Bank and its subsidiaries have all been sanctioned, according to the Treasury press release. A state-supported defense company, Promtekhnologiya, which produces rifles that are used in Russian military operations, has also been designated.
Sergej Sumlenny
Sergej Sumlenny is a German political expert with a particular focus on security and energy policy in Russia and Eastern Europe. In 2015-2021, he was an office director for Ukraine and Belarus at the German Heinrich-Böll Foundation. He holds a doctoral degree in political science.
