Who is Marek Menkiszah…

Marek Menkiszah is the Head of the Russia Department, Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW), state think tank based in Warsaw, Poland. He used to be a member of the EU – Russia Task Force at the EU Institute for Security Studies, Paris between 2008 and 2009 as well as the visiting researcher at the Finnish Institute for International Affairs (FIIA) in Helsinki in 2013 and the OSW Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy at the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Washington DC in 2015.

His research area covers Russia’s domestic, foreign and security policy; NIS area problems, and European security. His recent publications include: Russia’s Best Enemy: Russian Policy Towards the United States in Putin’s Era, OSW Point of View No. 62, Warszawa, February 2017.

Russia knows that the prolonged intense war and the persistent or increasing sanctions threaten a serious crisis for the state. Therefore, it chooses a rapid escalation tactic in an attempt to bring about a breakthrough in its favor.- Marek Menziszah
