Why EuroFile supports Ukraine everyday
Dear Readers,
My heartfelt thank yous go out to you all for subscribing to EuroFile, and a few kind souls that encourage me everyday. I see your ‘hearts’ and appreciate them every time I open my email.
I’d also like to thank those of you who support my work. It keeps me stocked with coffee and toner, and occasionally I can get to a conference. If anyone can swing it, I would appreciate your support.
EuroFile was created to cover stories that are affecting our lives, up close and personal. I realise that roughly 90% of the posts are about the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Ukraine’s noble battle, or some related topic. Why?
It is my belief that this is the defining moment for the free West and for our dear, dear friends in Ukraine. This is where we are.
I thought I could remain ‘objective’. That didn’t happen. How could I not speak out with all the violence, and war crimes, and genocide we are seeing right before our eyes? How could I not speak out when our leaders act too slowly with so many people dying?
I will never, ever forget what happened in Bucha, and in so many other villages, towns and cities across the occupied territories. There’s a part of me that broke.
This is my way to keep the Russian war against in Ukraine, and against the Ukrainian people, in the public eye. Visibility is key. My gratitude goes out to the people who are raising money for drones and humanitarian aid, and who are volunteering or creating events to showcase Ukrainian culture. Some have also arranged protests, or demonstrations of support, as we have seen by the good people in London, almost daily.
This is how I can show my support. Ukrainians are defending their nation, and they are keeping us safe. I’ll also include articles to deepen knowledge about the issues surrounding the war, and our response to it.
Yes, there are many other emergencies and stories to cover, and I will include some stories as they impact us. You’ll be getting some posts about the Italian general election because no one is paying attention to it, and I believe this will mark a turning point for Europe should the radical right-wing coalition succeed. Europe is holding for now but for how much longer? The climate emergency has not gone away, and there are so many others.
I have chosen to show my Ukrainian partners that their fight has not been forgotten, and is as important and impactful today, as it was leading up to Russia’s full-scale attack on February 24. EuroFile is with Ukraine all the way, until the day I can get on a train, and head to Kyiv to toast my heroes, and hug my friends.
I have said this before on my podcasts and in writing: Ukraine is the battle of good over evil. It’s really that simple.
Thanks for sticking with EuroFile,
Mo
